Class 12 Humanities (Arts) Syllabus updated for 2025-26 session with chapterwise weightage


Hello students today in this article we are going to discuss subjectwise syllabus for humanities students 2025-26 session. So let's get started.


1. History

Let's start with history. As we know we have to study three books in history Themes in Indian History part - 1, Themes in Indian History part - 2 and Themes in Indian History part - 3.  In book 1 we study about Ancient Indian History , in book 2 we study Medieval Indian History and in book 3 we study about Modern Indian History. Each book has a weightage of 25 marks and 5 marks from map.

As per 2025-26 syllabus you have to study 4 chapters in each book. Here is the list.

Themes in Indian History part 1 (25 marks)

Chapter 1 - Brick , Beads and Bones (The Harappan Civilisation)

Chapter 2 - Kings , Farmers and Towns (Early States and Economies c.600 BCE to 600 CE)

Chapter 3 -  Kinship , Caste and Class (Early Societies c.600 BCE to 600 CE)

Chapter 4 - Thinkers , Beliefs and Buildings (Cultural Developments c.600 BCE to 600 CE)


Themes in Indian History part 2 (25 marks)

Chapter 1 - THROUGH THE EYES OF TRAVELLERS   (Perceptions of Society c. tenth to seventeenth centuries)

Chapter 2 - BHAKTI –SUFI TRADITIONS Changes in Religious Beliefs and Devotional Texts (c. eighth to eighteenth centuries)

Chapter 3 - AN IMPERIAL CAPITAL: VIJAYANAGARA (c. fourteenth to sixteenth centuries)

Chapter 4 - PEASANTS, ZAMINDARS AND THE STATE Agrarian Society and the Mughal Empire (c. sixteenth seventeenth centuries)

Chapter 1 - COLONIALISM AND THE COUNTRYSIDE Exploring Official Archives

Chapter 2 - REBELS AND THE RAJ 1857 Revolt and its Representations

Chapter 3 - MAHATMA GANDHI AND THE NATIONALIST MOVEMENT Civil Disobedience and Beyond

Chapter 4 - FRAMING THE CONSTITUTION The Beginning of a New Era



2. Political Science

In Political Science we have to study two books namely Contemporary World Politics and Poilitics in India Since Independence. Each book caries a weightage of 40 marks.

Chapter 3 - Politics of Planned Development - 2 Marks

Chapter 4 - India’s External Relations - 6 Marks

Chapter 5 - Challenges to and Restoration of the Congress System - 4 Marks

Chapter 6 - The Crisis of Democratic Order  - 4 Marks

Chapter 7 - Regional Aspirations - 6 Marks

Chapter 8- Recent Developments in Indian Politics - 8 Marks



3. Geography

In geography we have study 2 theory book namely Fundamental of Human Geography and India People and Economy and 1 practical book (Geography Practical II ). The theory exam comprises 70 Marks while practical exam carries a weightage of 30 Marks.

Fundamental of Human Geography (8 Chapters) :   In this book you have to study 8 chapters that has weightage of 30 marks and the rest 5 marks are based on map work from this book.

Chapter 2 - The World Population Density Distribution and Growth 

Chapter 3 -  Human Development

*(Both chapter2 and 3 are part of Unit 2 has a weightage of 8 Marks)

Chapter 4 - Primary Activities
 
Chapter 5 - Secondary Activities 

Chapter 6 - Tertiary and Quaternary Activities 

Chapter 7 - Transport, Communication and Trade

 Chapter 8 - International Trade

*Chapter 4 to 8 are part of Unit 3 and has a weightage of 19 marks*

India People and Economy (9 Chapters) :   In this book you have to study 9 chapters which has a weightage of 30 Marks and rest 5 marks are based on map work from this book.


Chapter 1 - Population Distribution Density Growth and Composition - 5 Marks

Chapter 2 - Human Settlements - 3 Marks

Chapter 3 - Land Resources and Agriculture 

Chapter 4 - Water Resources

Chapter 5 - Mineral And Energy Resources

Chapter 6 - Planning and Sustainable Development in Indian Context


*(Chapter 3 to 6 are part of Unit 3 and their combined weightage is 10 Marks)


Chapter 7 - Transport and Communication

Chapter 8 - International Trade

*(Chapter 7 and 8 comprises 7 Mar ks)



Chapter 9 - Geographical Perspective on selected issues and problems - 5 Marks


Geography Practicals II (30 Marks) :  


Chapter 1 - Data-its source and Compilation 

Chapter 2 - Data Processing 

Chapter 3 - Graphical representation of Data

*(All the three chapter has a combined weightage of 18 Marks)

Chapter 4 - Spatial Information Technology - 7 Marks

Rest 5 marks will be given in Viva.



4. Economics :     

In economics you have to study 2 books Introductory Macroeconomics and Indian economic Development.

Chapter 3 - Development Experience of India – A Comparison with Neighbours - 8 Marks




5. Sociology 

In sociology you have to study two books Indian Society and Social Change and Development in India. Each book has a weightage of 40 Marks.

Chapter 5 - Social Movements - 10 Marks



6. Psychology 


Psychology theory paper consist of 70 Marks and 30 Marks in practicals.  There is only one book of psychology that you will have to study.
